The USC COMPASS Program: Creating Opportunities through Mentorship and Partnership Across Stem Cell Science launches in 2023. The program is a multidisciplinary collaboration with three different schools at USC: the Keck School of Medicine, the Viterbi School of Engineering, and the Dornsife College of Arts, Letters, and Sciences. With funding the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM), USC COMPASS will prepare undergraduate students for careers in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine though an intensive two-year program during their junior and senior years.
The USC COMPASS program will provide comprehensive support and preparation with:
- Cutting-edge course work in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine
- Hand-on summer laboratory training on the growth and differentiation of stem cells
- Two-year research internship with one of our 60+ faculty advisors
- Mentoring from academic and industry professionals with careers in stem cell biology regenerative medicine
- Tuition support
- Monthly stipend
- Workshops to build academic and professional competencies
- Outreach projects to learn about patient advocacy and community education
After completing this program, Scholars will possess a unique understanding of how the body’s own developmental and repair mechanisms can restore damaged cells, tissues and organs. Scholars will be poised to enter the growing stem cell biotechnology field, apply to graduate programs, or engage in other academic, clinical, or business efforts.
